Opinion on UT martin

I am from Minnesota and have wanted to go to college and then live in Tennessee for a while now. I have seen that UT Martin has a lot of out of state scholarships, but I would not qualify for the out of state tuition waiver. What I am wondering is how it is perceived in Tennessee and if it is a good school for biology or for a business like economics.
Thanks to anyone for the responses.
Another thing I am wondering is if APSU is better or worse than UT martin. Feel free to recommend other schools.
Stats: 2 AP classes on honors through sophomore year
GPA: 3.4
ACT prep: 26
Thank to everyone!

I have both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UT Martin. The business program is very strong while agriculture and sciences rank very highly as well. I would recommend calling the Admission’s office because they are just starting a new “scholarship” where if you commit to live on campus and have a meal plan for two years, they will waive the out of state tuition. Just something to think about.

As a TN resident, I wouldn’t really recommend it or APSU. If you really want to come to TN you should look into UT Chattanooga or UT Knoxville. They’re rated much higher and have much stronger programs in my opinion. And if you’re going to pay out of state tuition, you need to make sure you’re doing so at a university that’ll provide you with superior academics and prepare you to get a job or into a graduate program.

Why are you interested in Tennessee - are there other states that might work out too?
Based on your GPA and ACT score, you should look into UT Knoxville (or Chattanooga as suggested above). You also have ULouisville to consider, Transylvania, Centre…
Centre in particular is a very strong school that offers merit aid and really provides top opportunities for B+ /A-students.

@MYOS1634 my problem probably would not be getting in, it would be paying for it that is why I am looking at UT martin and APSU. I would be open to staying close to TN, Both my parents are re married and have no interest in helping to pay for my education so that is why it has to be the cheapest option, but still decent. UTK is over 40 grand a year with no scholarships or aide to out of state students, Chattanooga is also expensive.

I agree with you, it just that UT martin an APSU both make it that the tuition with the scholarships is equal to going to a college in Minnesota.

What are you stats? There are lots of better colleges than ut martin that offer dull scholarahipa.
If neither of your parents are interested in paying for your college, you have to dind full tuition ir full ride scholarships.
Are they just opposed to Tennessee and would pay for mn schools, or any college? Because colleges don’t care whether parents want to pay or not, your efc is fixed.

^ sorry for typos, my phone won’t let me edit. :frowning:

I dont have other stats yet, activities are volunteering at chuch, the nationals business society and I have a job. No parents are not opposed to TN, just dont reallly want to spend their money on college
