Opinion poll

Please answer the following:

1) Do you support the United States' role in combating global terrorism? Why or why not?

2) If you support this role, should the USA take a more active or passive approach to this and why?

3) If you don't support this, what should the USA focus on the most and why?

1) No. Our domestic issues should be prioritized.
Our reasons for occupying the Middle East have been fabricated for oil access.

3) The USA should focus more on world crisis such as Sudan and Global Warming.
Is our government blind!?

Right on! Let's forget about those pesky terrorists who want to kill us.

I think that we SHOULD worry about the terrorists that want to kill US, but ridding the world of terrorism... not gonna happen.

So basically, I think that we need to worry about ourselves, period. End of story.

this fear that we have to cover the world and rid all these terrorist who want to kill us is exactly the kind of thing that will make these radicalist claim victory!

THeir goal in life isn't just to kill lives, but to instill deep fear. To many of you, it seems the terrorist are winning that front.

No. domestic issues are more important.

Inflation, poverty, etc...

The question, at least in my mind, is whether or not the "fight fire with fire" approach works. Almost all of the good research on suicide terrorism now suggests that the act is not a response to value clashes, but instead to occupations.

If occupations are the root cause of suicide terrorism, then how are we helping stop it by occupying more territories? I think Robert Pape should be required reading for anyone interested in how to respond effectively to suicide terrorism.

Oh, and years of fighting the LTTE head on didn't yield much for Sri Lanka. I don't suspect much will change for us.

I don't agree with the use of war to stop terrorism because as stated above trying to stop attacks against us by attacking other countries isn't going to work.

"There is no way to peace. Peace is the Way."-A.J. Muste

However i don't think we can just pull out of Iraq now after we messed up the lives of millions of people there; the security situation has to be stabilized. We can't expect the young governments to deal with the chaos we created no matter how long we have to stay there; the lives of the kids in the middle east are worth just as much as those of the kids in the army.

1) Do you support the United States' role in combating global terrorism? Why or why not?
No, there is no way fathomable that we can defeat 'terrorism' There will always be terrorism. I agree, terrorism is bad, we should kill all terrorists, but this isn't going to happen especially because 'terrorist' is a vague term. Could you walk by someone on the street and say hey, he's a terrorist! We're accomplishing nothing by fighting terrorism and we're loosing our soldiers.

Also in order to make any significant steps you would actually need other countries behind you.

To address the issue of leaving Iraq immediately, no we can't leave now that we destroyed their country, we need to help them get it running again.

3) If you don't support this, what should the USA focus on the most and why?
We need to focus on domestic issues, social security, border problems, the economy, rather then fighting in a war that we shouldn't be fighting.

No

Health care for our own citizens

is there anyone who thinks the us should be in the fight against global terrorism?

there are more important things than fighting a war you cannot win.

1) no becoz thats now what US really wants to do. Its making it up to cover its dirty plot and that is to make its presence felt in the global community.. just one of those hundred thousand plans...but a bigone at that........(ok I just made that up :))

2)US should focus on ..aa....... ..aaaaaaaaa........ .ummmmmmmm .........mmmmmmmmmmmm............fighting global warming cuz it sounds much better that global terrorism.

I agree with Barack Obama =P

The "reasons" to invade were fabricated... terrorism has gotten WORSE, and anti-American sentiment has spread... That's putting it simply, but that's the gist of it.

AAAHHHHH. I hate our government now. They messed everything up.

Domestic issues -- foremost of which would be illegal immigration.

NOT to say that terrorism doesn't exist,
but this isn't the fault of the Iraqi government.
Hate is insatiable and will always exist.
We are feeding the flame with oxygen.
