Yes my son is very strong/interested in liberal arts and STEM. He is quite undecided. He’s got great stats 4.56W/35 ACT and I could honestly see him change his mind. I know they are reaches, but programs like Penn that has engineering and the opportunity to take some finance/econ classes or USC’s Engineering + program are interesting. And he’d be interested in Materials Science or Chemical engineering.
We have a friend who’s son attended USoCal and got a degree in engineering plus finance plus a masters in 4 years plus 2 summers.
Lots of engineers do consulting and finance work also. Financial engineering could be interesting
Yes- I work at a quant shop. We have many engineers turned quants.
Did he like it?
I think so and he seems to be doing more finance than engineering. He likes having the flexibility.
Let me throw Centre College into the conversation. It partners with Washington University and University of Kentucky. My impression is that the program is for those who decide late to pursue engineering or students who want an engineering background but may have other career objectives, like management, administration and consulting. Centre students are prized at both partner campuses so there isn’t any cross-enrollment issues.
Thanks for these tips. Very helpful.
