Hi! Im a sophomore this year, and I will become a junior year.
Im considering to take AP Lang next year, but Im having second thoughts.
I hear its a lot of work.
Is it worth it?
The classes that I will be taking next year;
1) AP Calc AB
2) US History
3) Chem H
4) Spanish III
5) Tennis
6) AP Lang?

It would be either AP Lang or AP US History. I cant decide!
Personally, history is not my thing.
My English teacher wants me to go for it, but its the load of work thats intimidating me?
I need more opinions.
Thankss!

AP Lang - more work than I’ve ever had in an English class, but it wasn’t bad at all.
AP U.S. History - taking it next year; going to be quite a bit of work, but I love history and the teacher is my favorite teacher that I’ve ever had.

I’m biased towards choosing history, but realistically if you don’t like history you should go with AP Lang I think.

I’ve taken Lit and Lang and I found Lit to be vastly easier. On the Lang AP, all of the MC passages were incredibly boring and from like the 1700s. I just found the combination of poetry and prose on lit to be way more interesting

i also want to improve my writing skills.
like i said, i dont want the workload to stress me out.
this year i took ap euro and ap bio and it was so stressfull because i had to constantly read for both subjects.
and from my experience from ap euro, i didnt learn much. it didnt really interest me, thats why X(

That just shows you how subjective these AP English classes are. My AP Lang class had almost no work. It is a tough class, and few people get 5’s on the exam. I thought it was worth it though, due to the valuable skills I’ve gained as a writer.

AP Language has improved my writing a lot, but it’s probably the second hardest class I’ve ever taken (the first being anatomy, which is not even an AP class >_<). What I mean by hard is that I’m normally a straight A student and so far through 3 quarters of AP Lang, I’ve got a B+, an A-, and another B+. The workload is definitley manageable though, even if you procrastinate and write essays the night before they’re due like me.

As for AP US History… I don’t think much of what I could tell would help. My teacher was a great guy, but a ****ty teacher. He let a lot of cheating go unnoticed and because of this, there was a lot of grade inflation. In the end, out of about 55 or so people who took the class, at least 45 people took the test and I was the only person who scored a 5. That kind of shows you how crappy his teaching was. History is somewhat interesting to me though, so I do think that helped some.

Overall, I think you would probably gain more from AP Lang, and if you like writing more than history anyways, AP Lang is probably the choice that would leave you happier. Good luck with whichever one you choose though :)
