I'm a transfer student (English major) going to UC Irvine and I wanted to know what people thought of the Arroyo Vista themed housing (especially the Transfer-oriented one), and whether or not I should pick Mesa Court or Middle Earth. Any info would be appreciated.

I’ve never lived in Arroyo Vista, but I know quite a lot about Middle and Mesa. Middle is advantageous because it’s closer to campus and Mesa is known to have larger rooms. However both communities house all the dorming freshmen, so I don’t know if that age difference would be a problem. I know of a few people having transfer students as roommates.

Arroyo Vista is further away from the campus, there are shuttle stops that go from AV to main campus. It’s closer to the the gym (ARC) and you’ll be with people that are closer to you in age.

I think latc’s on to something about the whole age thing. Mesa/Middle is mostly freshmen and people generally hang around their own year, unless you take a lot of the same classes with other freshmen. I think Arroyo should have a lot of transfer students… I think there was even a house just for transfer students, but I could be wrong. You should do some research :)

Arroyo vista’s rent monthly is ~530/mo, middle earth or mesa is ~3,300/quarter, so its almost double AV, but at least you get a meal plan in middle or mesa.
