Opinions on california schools

hi everyone!

so i am currently beginning my college apps and i would like to know more about the colleges im applying to. i have an extremely broad taste in what i may want to do with my life but i pretty much want to stay in the journalism/english area. that may turn to publication or foreign correspondence or politics, im not quite sure yet. so the main schools that i am applying to are ucla, ucsb, uci, loyola marymount, pepperdine, and possibly chapman. im trying to do research myself but its taking a lot of time and i seem to be going nowhere with it.

any help would be much appreciative!

Are you from California? These are all excellent institutions with great programs. Not sure if I’m answering your questions, but in terms of the differences, UC schools are large public research universities with large campuses, and large class sizes. LMU, Pepperdine, and Chapman are private religious universities with smaller class sizes. LMU is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Jesuit. Pepperdine is affiliated with the Churches of Christ. Chapman is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Hope this helps.

How about Occidental College?. In Los Angeles. Obama went there.

i do live in la and i am not really taking religion into consideration as all that really matters to me is what the best fit is but thank you anyway. ive just very recently started looking at occidental but i dont know too much about it.

Keep in mind that even though LMU, Pepperdine, and Chapman are religiously affiliated universities, anyone can attend there. You don’t need to be religious in any way to attend.

As an example, Chapman offers religious courses, but students are not required to take them. It’s basically a top private liberal arts university with excellent value for a quality education. They give out need-blind merit scholarships and grants to students who qualify. Chapman is also known for their prestigious film school, among the best in the world. Their TV & Broadcast Journalism programs are housed within the film school as well. To find out whether a school fits you, you must go see for yourself. Best of luck!

You might also check out the Claremont Colleges, although they’re much more selective than LMU, Pepperdine and Chapman.

Can you visit these colleges during one of your breaks?

Personally , I like UC Santa Cruz ! Location - location - location !

i really want to vist them but im afraid of falling in love with one of them and then not getting in. and i would apply to ucsc but its too far for my parents. thanks though!

I know they have a wonderful film program How is thier Theatre, screen as my son has an interest in double majoring in Sociology . Also how are thier connections for example Ucla and Usc say they help thier students once they’re out of school. Do you think Chapman has all this? What other schools in the southern california area do you think are a good fit for these majors?

Do you believe they have a good theatre, Screenactors major as well?
