Hi, on my last post I read and re-read every single person’s response a hundred times. I greatly appreciate what everyone had to say
I think I narrowed down the choices of drama schools to the following:
- The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (New York and California campus)
- The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts
- Neighborhood Playhouse
- Circle In The Square Theatre School
Now, I would just like some opinions for each of these schools, if you wouldn’t mind
For each school, (a) what is the reputation like? (b) How difficult is it to get into (acceptance percentage)? © Do they teach quality training? (d) I know this doesn’t really affect whether I make it or not, but do they have a decent percentage of working graduates?
Although I am more focused on acting for film, I realize that getting a solid base for acting, whether it is for film or theatre, is the most important part. NP and Circle are both known as theatre schools, but seem to come highly recommended.
I know AADA and NYCDA may be bashed sometimes but I truly think it is what each person does with the training they receive that matters. If they have amazing teachers and are great places to study at, I think that is more important than if they may not have the most stellar repuation. I would just like to know IF they have great training at those places
I’m vising these schools soon, but I am leaning more towards AADA and NYCDA only because they have dorms and I think I would like the dorm-feel, and my college plan can be used for that. But I got a nice vibe from NP when I called them up. So I’ll see what I think when I visit them in person.
Thanks in advance to all who can help! <3
P.S. To the one person I have a feeling will comment that this website is for “college” and I should go to backstage for answers, I realize this website may have the word college in the title, but I think it’s perfectly fine to look at non-traditional college routes (and backstage’s website was confusing to me xD). Conservatories and the like are all places of study and learning, regardless if they fit the typical 4 year college type. I would like to hear your opinions on these schools and appreciate your advice if you could help me because you seem very knowledgeable
