I am really worried about my admission to UT Austin. My GPA is really bad. [3.5 weighted] and I'm from out of state. However I do have decent test scores and a strong co- curricular background. I looked at their website and they said that you need to get a 26+ on the ACT math section and a 530+ on sat math. I got 36 and a 800 . I also got a 5 on my AP Calculus exam. I did 4 years of french and took 5 science classes. (1 honors and 2 APs..got 5s on both). I have around 150 hours of community service.
So, if I wanted to do ECE at UT austin, do you think I would have a shot?

i think you might have a good chance...does your school rank?

no it doesnt, it's really elite though..top 100 in america
im not trying to brag or anything..i just really want to go to UTAustin

What are your full scores for SAT and ACT? If the others are reasonably good, you should be in no problem.

33 ACT composite
790 on Physics ( i dont think they care about that)
i didnt take SAT1

You should be in no problem. If they see you go to a really good high school, and a low rank, but very good Standardized test scores, you should be fine.

Thanks , i appreciate it very much

I think youll be fine

3.5 weighted GPA makes me worry a bit about your admission, but your UT Admissions officer is assigned to your H.S. so she should know how hard it is there and take that into account.

hey foxshox, can you give me an idea about how good my school has to be? I mean was your high school ranked high in the nation?

Yeah I have no idea how good your school has to be ranked... Mine was 429 on the top 1300 list, but we were instate, and a pretty big feeder school for UT. You should be ok if it is top 100 and you have a 33.

thanks a TON!

do you know if they care more about gpa or standardized test scores?

I think you'll be okay david. Any other schools you're applying to?

yes;
Texas A&M ,a couple state schools and Georgia Tech

gtech>A&M, but it will be more expensive.

For OOS, probably more is weighted on Standardized tests.
