Opinions so far from any out-of-staters?

Do you like Berkeley? Do you feel like it's worth the high tuition? Are you having fun?

I absolutely love Berkeley - the weather here is amazing (though I’ve heard its abnormally high this year), the people here are very diverse, SF is just a BART ride away, and you have so many opportunities coming here. As far as being worth the OOS tuition cost, I would say only if you choose a technical major. It’s not worth it to pay over 50k a year to be an english or bio major imo.

I am absolutely having fun. The weekdays are very stressful with lots of work but I get to unwind over the weekend and hang out with friends. There’s so much to do here. I would definitely recommend checking out the school first. It’s something I didn’t do but now I wish I had.

@guruofgreatness , what would you say about an OOS here for Econ?

I’m an OOS here and I really like Berkeley  It’s just really diverse and eclectic and different, compared to where I came from. The students are always involved, they’re always up to something, they study really hard, everyone is so intelligent, etc. The campus is AWESOME, too, it’s so pretty.
Those are the pros. The cons are that it’s kind of hard to make friends, not only because the campus/school is so big, but also because it seems so many groups of people already know each other from high school or just from being from around the same region in California. It also doesn’t help that I live at Foothill (it’s always kinda dead compared to the Units…). I also seriously miss my friends/family back home! :(

You can always make friends via collegeconfidential LOL :P.

Hahaha, hey! Guess what I’m working on right now, lol

^“failing at” more like it… xP

the reason you aren’t making buttloads of friends, lemoncat, is because you didn’t go to the ucla game today to watch Cal lose. PEOPLE BOND OVER FAILURE. ■■■, why did i put money on cal… fucla…

Lol, poor cal, always losing :(! Haha lemon, I’m still trying to work out that problem too. Apparently I only got 1/4 pt, but I thought it was more than sufficient enough to earn at least 2 pts >_<!

uhhhh bump!

bump again?

Making friends depends on you, not the college (no offense lemoncat!). I’ve read tons of threads here and heard from many people in varying colleges about how easy or hard it is to make friends. Regardless of what college you go to, it’ll be hard to make friends if you don’t talk to your floormates a lot, don’t get involved in clubs, etc. You have to be aggressive and extroverted…I’ve had no trouble making friends here because I started hanging out with my floormates since the first week of school, pledged a fraternity, and joined a few clubs. While it is true that I live in the units so it might be a bit more of a social atmosphere, there’ no excuse for not making friends if you don’t live in the units because there’s so many opportunities to do so and I met many of my friends from clubs and other events.

Yeah, @guruofgreatness is right, Berkeley has a lot clubs and a loooot of different people to meet/socialize/party with :D

I’ve tried joining a few clubs and I guess it’s going all right. I was never one to make a lot of friends, though, haha, because this is my 8th time moving xD
