Hello all, I just wanted to share with everyone what Im thinking and hopefully get some responses. Im currently a finance major at Pace University in New York City. I hate it. I want to do the pre-med program here at this school. I just completed freshmen year with a 3.5 GPA. I'll probably have to go an extra year, or take summer courses to catch up on my sciences. I want to go to medical school afterwards. Any opinions? Am I out of my mind for doing this?

not at all, sounds very reasonable...

also, if you work hard you probably will not have to take an extra year and probably very few summer courses if any....though in that case you will have to take at least two science courses per semester for the next three years which of course is very doable.

Will coming from Pace University (A no name school) hurt my chances of entering Med school?

Also, I want to transfer but I dont know to where. I wouldnt bother with Columbia or UPenn, I dont think Id get in. Where are good pre med programs that will look good for med school but arnt really hard schools to get into? I'd consider schools all over the country.

UWashington?

No, coming from a no name school won't hurt u if u have a good GPA (3.6 or higher) and a good MCAT score. U probably won't have to do an extra year if u take summer classes. Then again, u might want to leave ur summers free for doing things like research or volunteering or getting an internship. However, if u do transfer u will definitely need an extra year. This is because most likely all ur classes won't transfer. So think about it. If u like Pace, then stick with it. U don't need to go to some spiffy ivy league school to get into med school.

Thank you urmytiya, you were very helpful! Does anyone know where I can find info on research opportunities or internships on-line?
