Hi everyone!! I have the opportunity to go abroad this year (not quite study abroad, but it is relevant to my schooling), and I would really love to go. It’s been approved by my parents as long as I can get the money, and right now I’m about $200 short. I’m not letting myself use my real savings account for the trip, rather one that I’ve set up specifically for travel that has the rest of my money. As I’d need to start booking things kind of soon, I’m just wondering if there’s anyway I could hope to earn that kind of money?
I already have a job on campus, but I don’t get a lot of hours - around 4 hours a week generally. And I’ve got a job over winter and summer breaks, so I know I could make the money up if I took it out of my savings, I’d just really rather not.
You should try to get more hours at your job. 4 hours a week isn’t very much. That’s the only thing I can think of otherwise maybe your parents would be generous enough to give you the $200. If that doesn’t work then you should just take the money out of your savings and make that money back by working.
Hopefully it works out because studying abroad is a great experience so you should definitely do it!
See if you college career/job office has a place where locals post for jobs that they are looking for students to fill. One of my kids makes good extra $ doing this.
My D has earned some money by submitting some writing and entering local art competitions. Look at the local library for essay competitions or similar, often by the Lions club, etc… See if the town office has any competitions going. They are usually judged and awarded very quickly.
