OPT Eligibility???

Greetings everyone,

I have few questions regarding OPT (Optional Practical Training). To best of my knowledge, i believe that in order to be eligible for OPT, one must be enrolled full time for one academic year (Fall and Spring). My question is that will i be eligible to apply for OPT if i enroll full time in Spring and then take the summer off, then go back for fall semester, will this count as one academic year (i.e, Spring and Fall instead of Fall and Spring). Or is it more like a person should stay in the US for 9 months in order to apply for OPT?

Your answers with explanations would be highly appreciated
Thank you for time and comments
Have a nice day :)

I think you should discuss this with your international student advisor because many people here wouldn’t be upto date with immigration rules like they are.

Hi MaxLioner , I am also have the same question.Yet to consult my school’s DSO.Have you met your International advisor. If so can you please elaborate whether taking courses in spring and fall will make one eligible for OPT.Thanks.Please reply .
