Opting out of Early Decision?

I just took the SAT's and got the same score again, 1970, after having a tutor...... I have a 30 on the ACT and I realize that there is no possible way of getting into Dartmouth. If I take back the ED will they put me on a list or anything? I still want to apply to Cornell and other schools.

Why don’t you apply to Dartmouth anyway? You may still get in - dartmouth’s a wildcard when it comes to admissions. I urge you to apply ED to Dartmouth if it is your first choice, and if you don’t get in, then you can still apply elsewhere.

But to answer your question: yes you can get out of ED by changing the Future Plans section for Dartmouth on your Common App, but I think it is too late to apply ED/EA to another school unless you have already completed their application+supplement.

Without a 2200+ on the SAT I’m pretty sure I have no chance after looking at everything on this forum. I’m only 13 in my class out of 430 (although its so low because I transferred from a private school that didn’t offer AP’s my freshman year) and I have no hook. I was getting recruited for wrestling, but due to a shoulder injury I am now out for my senior year. I just feel like applying early decision is a waste when I could use it to my advantage at another school like Vanderbilt.

You can contact Dartmouth admissions and ask them to change your application from ED to RD

You’ll have to fill out the Vandy application in like three days. If you can do that, then I guess you might as well.

“You can contact Dartmouth admissions and ask them to change your application from ED to RD”

And there’s no punishment or consequence for doing so before the ED deadline.

Unfortunately, unless you have a hook, or coach pulling you in, your test scores probably are not strong enough for highly selective colleges. (Vandy rejects 31’s and WL’s a bunch of 32’s. btw, Vandy does not defer during ED, it’s accept or reject.)

Cornell is your best shot but only with ED. If you apply to a contract college, you might be offered the Transfer Option.

you should apply to dartmouth ED if its your first choice… you’ll never know if you dont try!

Well now I’m pretty sure that I’m going to switch Dartmouth to RD and apply Cornell ED. Thanks for the suggestions by the way. Also, I’m a citizen of England as well as the US, does that count as a hook?

^ Probably more so at some U.S. schools if you live in England instead of in the USA.
