I just wrote an essay for another application on how I can contribute to the diversity in the campus... would this qualify as something I can place on the optional additional information? I think that this contribution is very important when evaluating my application and I want to emphasize it even though I loosely mentioned it in the Common Application Additional Information.

My opinion is that you shouldn't. If the essay is so great and important you should use it as your main essay.

it cant hurt though can it?... or maybe i could somehow shorten it and make it as my note to roommate short answer.

The statement clearly emphasizes not to add additional essays. So my answer is, nope, do not use it...

i agree with limon. They don't want you to inundate them with more essays. They ask you for enough as it is.

For Stanford, it can hurt because it specifically states in its website not to to submit resume, supplements, etc.. Stanford questionaires are designed as such that additional information is not necessary.
