Duke's application includes an optional Artistic Supplement, and they bolded the instructions saying only those with "exceptional talent" should send in their works. Then, attach a 1 page typed resume and send it in.

I think I'm pretty talented in visual arts (mainly drawing and painting), but I've only taken a Draw/Paint I class in 9th grade. I was going to continue with it throughout my hs career, eventually taking HL IB Art but due to scheduling conflicts in soph, jun, and sr year I wasn't able to take Art. (Our school required mandatory classes just for the class of 2010) Currently, though I can't take IB Art SL (again, scheduling conflicts with AP Calculus), I'm taking AP Art History.

Due to this, I havn't produced many pieces, and most of them are in pencil/charcoal/oil pastel/watercolor. I don't have many good acrylic/oil pieces because painting's not included in the Draw and Paint I class curriculum.

Not taking art classes in 10-12 grade has also prevented me from having my works displayed, or submitted to any contests/winning any awards. Basically, my resume will pretty much suck.

I've won a $500 scholarship to attend an art camp at a community college, and I got to county level in the Reflections Art Contest (not something to be proud of, but it just shows how limited my artistic achievements are). I'm also a member of the VBS decorating committee at my church, and I volunteered in the Arts in Medicine department at Shands Hospital. My art was also going to be showcased at a local college in 10 grade, but because I didn't have an art class, my teacher couldn't reach me in time and it ended up not being submitted because she didn't have my permission/signature.

I'm just wondering if it's worth it to send in the optional artist supplement. Normally, with such a crappy resume, I wouldn't, but I want to minor in Visual Arts and my essays talk about my passion for both medicine and art. I think it'll seem weird if I talk about how important art is to me, and not have a supplement.
I just noticed how long this post was. I am SO sorry, but any advice would be appreciated!
