Optional, at least one item strognly recommended:

Results from 2 sat subject tests, graded essay, or college transcripts.

I have taken only one sat II (pretty stupid decision in retrospect), but this is actually the only school that I'm applying to that "strongly recommends" two (or any, for that matter), and at the same time doesn't specify that it necessarily recommends the subject tests per se. I plan on submitting at least a graded essay. Would this put me at a strong disadvantage among applicants if I don't have two subject tests to submit and would this imply that I'm only fulfilling half of the recommendation? If so, I still have one last chance to sign up for an sat II (december), but if I can avoid it, I probably would. Also, please acknowledge that I am already not a "top" applicant. This is more of a high match or low reach for me.

Also, if it is OK to only submit the essay, would it help at all if I chose to submit only the one subject test that I have (in addition to the essay, of course)?

Thanks a lot for responses.

Sammyjankis91, SAT II's are optional at the University of Rochester which means that they can only help you; they cannot hurt your application. I'd recommend submitting the essay and the SAT II you took. Furthermore, your application will not be hurt if you submit only one SAT II. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks, dweinerman.

What if my SAT IIs are attached to unfavorable SAT I scores that I don't really want considered? What's University of Rochester's policy on scores, in that respect?

UR does require SAT's.

Sammyjankis91, we will get all of your scores anyway when you send in the report from College Board. We always take the highest subsection scores, though.

Thing is, I'm planning on submitting my ACT scores, so it's either only those (which are acceptable, but without the IIs) or both (with IIs, but with low SAT I). I hate predicaments.

S applied ED to UR. Apparently did not see (or ignored) ``optional, but strongly recommended,'' directive. Took 1 SAT 2. Did not submit graded essay.

Is this a serious problem?

WyattEarp, it's not a problem at all. You can still mail us a graded essay if you'd like, since we are in the middle of ED review. As for the SAT II's, your son's application won't be viewed negatively at all if he doesn't submit the scores.

i was thinking of submitting an essay. the one i'm definitely proudest of is my extended essay (im in ib) so its about 15 pages. i'm assuming that this is too long. i have another, regular english one that i did well on, but my extended essay was much more original.
my english essay was comparing the metamorphosis and a doll's house (pretty generic, but my teacher loved it and i thought it was pretty good)
my extended essay is whether or not the intervention by the united states in nicaragua in the 1980s was justified.
i actually adored my extended essay and even talked about it in my interview. it hasn't been given a "grade" yet, because it wasn't for a specific class. however, my teacher did include notes for it and things of that nature.
