Do you think these are looked at to see if a student wants to go the extra mile or am I reading into this too much? lol
Should they be filled out and do you think they make a difference separating students?

When I applied for colleges, I did some of them and some I didn’t. If they were optional, I would do them if you want to get into the school and aren’t sure about the strength of the rest of your application. But, I did skip some and still got in without the optional essay.
I’ve heard multiple admission officers say that you should do all optional essays. Not doing so could be taken as a lack of interest in the school.
The only school I didn’t get into when I applied was the only school I didn’t write the optional essay for. I was waitlisted; this was a college that had a 90 something % acceptance rate from my high school but is a fairly competitive college.
Thanks. I’ll have him answer those. Makes sense.
