My two friends and I (all applicants to jhu) made a movie about a ten dollar adventure. We start out a store and buy swords and coconuts, coconuts which contain a boon from the gods- magic to be used in our times of greatest need. I proceed to kill the shopkeep and we encounter monsters/gatekeepers/etc. The coconuts' magic turns us into special heroes with different powers, and using the magic of iMovie, we edit amazingly and have a transformation scene. We defeat said enemies and save the damsel, right before The Fifth Dimension's "Age of Aquarius" starts to play. We end the movie with a short personal address to jhu and our line going out is (simultaneously with the 3 of us) "and you stay classy johns hopkins!"

Think ill get in?
by the way, i am dead serious. honestly. we seriously did this.

That wasnt really the purpose of my post, sorry. The post exists mainly for people to read and add to with their own stories if they would like.

i dont think its a good idea having 3 applicants on one video. wouldn't it be akward for them to reject one of you three, knowing that you all want to go together.

also, put the video on video.google.com . NOW

oh thats a great idea, i SHOULD put it on google video..
but then i might be embarassed for life. oh well.
ill talk to my friends and ill get back to this thread, check for updates, ill tell you.

by the way, we did the whole thing in one day, and it was so much fun. Partly because we had a feeling that we would get into better schools, and partly because it was an optional essay to begin with. But mostly because we like screwing around.

Well, decisions haven't come out yet, but rest assured, I'll tell you if we got in.
And Conchis, thanks for posting the link, I had posted it on another thread and I forgot about this one.

I applied for engineering, and my top choices are Cornell, Berkeley, and Stanford (big reach). JHU was the only place I did something collaborative. I think the biggest reason we made the video is that none of us felt that our chances of admission would hinge upon the fact that we're lunatics.

nice movie- :) i think this optional essay is a good way to give them an idea of your character, and its certainly something different from your garden variety essay- but its hard to tell if a great optional is good enough to get you in we'll see

I turned in a scrapbook of my friends and local hangouts and did a narrative storybook w/ a sock puppet named ed. said i'd spend my $10 on any way to keep my friends w/ me to college- i hope they send it back, i really like one of the photographs in there

does anyone know if hopkins has set a specific date/time as to when decisions come out? the 'last week of march' is not doing it for me- anyone have any info?

Well, you guys are indeed daring..Why did you kill the shopkeeper anyways? I know I would not have given such a video as my application material but that's just my opinion. Good luck!

I killed the shopkeep because I was dissatisfied with my purchase. Only in death did the shopkeepr reveal the magic of the coconuts that kept us on the true path.
