<p>There’s really no downside to submitting a photo. To borrow a phrase from Billy Beane, “We’re not trying to sell jeans here.”</p>

<p>He was yelling at scouts who scoffed at the notion that a fat catcher (who can hit and get on base really well) would be a good draft pick. He says it a couple times in the book, always in reaction to people who basically say “he doesn’t LOOK like a ballplayer!”. It’s to make the point that looks are completely irrelevant when it comes to evaluating someone’s talent at a sport (or, in my analogy, in college admissions).</p>
