I'd just like to get everyone's opinion on something DIRELY important to my application...

When I send my application in, I'm going to attach a picture of myself, as many others of you will. This particular picture has me sitting outside on the steps with a cigarette. I'm a rough-looking, bearded 18 year old.

Like, omg, could this adversely affect my chances?

when i read this thread topic, i figured it was going to be someone whining about being ugly or something, ahh well.

instinctively I don't think it will matter (though isn't there a specification for a passport photo or something like that, just a head shot)

however, you must keep in mind that you are applying to a VERY pre-professional school, and that attitude really permeates a lot of aspects of Penn. You are sending in a picture that does not display you in the best possible light, and thus could have a negative impact on your application. You wouldn't attach such a picture to a job application, would you?

If you wanna show that you're a rugged bearded person, i think you could go with something other than cigarettes. Like what I mean is, take out the cigarette and don't replace it with a drug... just to be safe. You don't want them getting the wrong impression of you

I used to be like the majority of people on CC, and then I realized that after submitting an application, sweating my liver out through my nostrils and creating a few ulcers in my stomach wouldn't changed a damned thing...
