"Optional" Research

Does anyone know how much this will count? Are/did you submit yours?

I don’t know how much. I think if you’ve done significant research, it’ll help. But if you haven’t, it won’t hurt. I submitted mine :)

I’m thinking they’re talking about legit research - otherwise they wouldn’t say you can write an abstract. If you self-studied a class or something like that, I’m thinking that could just go into the “Additional Information” section on the main CommonApp. Like I did chemE research in Philly on water transport through polymer membranes. I did it in a lab, under supervision of a mentor in a university. I’m thinking any research falling under that would be legit. If that helps…

Hm…would research for a business firm count? I did some research and profiling on competitor companies in my summer internship?

Also, how would we present this? Raw data, another essay, etc?

I think you should just write it because, unless you write really poorly, it can’t hurt you.

I just wrote a summary because my research was statistical analysis that would be published in a medical journal, and at the time that I was writing the essay, the journal wasn’t published yet.

Definitely write a summary up for that, but remember that it should be a SUMMARY. They do not need to know your data and all the nit-picky details. Just make sure you offer a solid summary that explains the problem and what you did. You should be solid. Research for a business firm is definitely considered legit research haha.

Ah. Summary it is. Thank you guys. :D
