I submitted the supplement, but I did not write an essay. It is a different form of writing. Is that all right?

Is it okay that the submitted supplement was not in a serious sort of style but rather took on a light and funny tone, highlighting some of my silly characteristics?

The optional submission does not have to take the form of an essay (however if you wish to submit it online it must – other forms must be sent by mail) and it does not have to be serious (neither does the personal statement for that matter). Both the personal statement in the Common App and the W&M Supplement are designed to let the Admission Committee know more about you in whatever manner and tone you wish.

What if I already submitted it online? (oops) Should I just forget about getting in?

I was wondering if anyone could read my optional essay and give some feed back.

weasley, a bit confused by your post. What exactly did you submit? Usually, you cannot upload anything to the Optional Submission that isn’t a Word Document but if you submitted whatever you submitted online and print previewed and it looked good, we’ll review it.

If for any reason something didn’t upload correctly, no big deal. We certainly don’t hold any “oops” like that against an applicant. Don’t psyche yourself out and assume that one little thing means you’re out. We don’t operate like that. We’re as interested in reviewing a complete application as you are in submitting one. Check out our Admit It! Blog on this very topic ([W&M Blogs From Submit to Complete](http://blogs.wm.edu/2010/11/05/from-submit-to-complete/)).

Take a breath, relax, and have faith in the process. Reply to this thread, tell us what you submitted online, and we’ll let you know if you should simply re-submit it by mail. Either way, it will be reviewed and any accident will not be held against you in any way.

spcambell1, the application was due about an hour ago so at this point, just proofread and submit. Have faith that you’ve created something thoughtful and click submit!

haha thank you w&m admissions, but i submitted my application about a week ago. I was just worried last night and was looking for some reassurance from a random reader. Thank you though.

No worries. No need to freak out. Don’t second guess yourself once your application is submitted. Just relax and have faith in the process overall and you’ll end up with good options come April.
