Optional??

optional letter of rec okay for swells? I have a phenomenal letter of rec from my journalism advisor. I know certain schools like NYU just toss the extra letter.

I bet Wellesley would look at it....I don't think it can hurt, unless you send like 10 letters.

I had the feelings you did about extra stuff for applications: I didn't want to annoy the admissions committee, but later someone told me if you have extra stuff why wouldn't you make the effort.

I'd see what the application packet says about extra recs. If it is ambiguous, you now have a wonderful excuse to phone admissions and "show interest" in Wellesley.

On the other hand a "journalism advisor" sounds like some sort of teacher. Do you know this person in a school context? Could this be an official letter, or does Wellesley want someone form your core subjects? It's worth asking.

thanks. actually, i've e-maile swells offices like..2x past few days but no response. weird. i know i have the right address.

They spend about the same amount of time on each applicant, so if you send in a lot of recs, they may just read both of them quickly. If you send in one, they'll read it thoroughly.

Go ahead and send your extra letter of rec. I did. Sometimes people send lots and lots of extra stuff- I'd say don't go overkill, but if you know this rec letter is good go ahead and include it!
Ok the worst thing that happens is that they don't read it. And then it's just like you never sent it in in the first place. So it's not gonna hurt, and it might help.
