options if denied as transfer

I am applying early to LSA, where i will recieve my decision before December 24. If i were to be denied, I would reapply or update my app for evaluation again. My question is how does that process work. Is an appeal a good option? What does one do if they want to be reevaluated after denial. update, reapply altogether, or appeal? which is best?

thanks

Whatever you do, don’t give up!

I saw this post and wanted to make sure that you keep trying even if you’re denied the first time. I was accepted as a transfer on my third try, my first semester is this fall. The best way to find out your options is to find someone at U of M who will explain how things work (students can be helpful, I’d call someone at ONSP or admissions). I didn’t know so I kept applying blindly.

yea i am definitely determined to attend UMich, i am applying to other schools but would choose UMich over any of them if accepted. What is ONSP? and what in particular should i be familiar with how it works to help me in the transfer process?

also what was your stats when you got denied and what were your stats when you got accepted?
thanks for your feedback thelaststaw, much appreciated!

ONSP is the office of new student programs. I think talking to someone in admissions (if possible) would be best. Things that you should be asking about is transfer credits (how many you can have for the college (within U of M) you’re applying to, which credits from your current school), what GPA range they look for at the college you want to go to, and if possible what the required classes are for your major.

I applied for the first time the first day of my freshman year (my other school wasn’t a good fit), I had no completed transferable credits, I got rejected before Thanksgiving. The second time I applied was at the send of my freshman year, I had a 3.39 GPA over 31 credit hours and still didn’t get accepted. I worked in my field (health care) while going to school first semester of my sophomore year and boosted my GPA up to a 3.48 and finally got accepted in February.

If you don’t mind me asking, where are you transferring from? What other schools are you applying to?

I am transferring from Macomb Community College. I am probably going to apply to many schools, i figure it won’t hurt to just send an app. to “reach” schools with no expectations of getting in.

I will apply to UMich and MSU for sure, and plan on also applying to UChicago, Brown, Columbia, Northwestern, and NYU to see what happens. I will be applying with around a 3.8 gpa and 48 or 49 credits completed halfway through my sophomore year.(I think only 44 or 45 are transferrable credits though)

Major is Math and Econ

If your GPA is around a 3.8 after three semesters, you should be in good shape. UM says the average GPA for a Community College transfer student in 2009 was 3.5-3.8 (remember, these are college GPA’s, not high school GPA’s). Their figures showed they had approx. 800 community college transfer applicants and took just under 400.

what do you think my chances are for the rest of the schools? aside from MSU since that will probably be a safety school. and my gpa will most likely be above a 3.8 just not as high as a 3.9
