is that class required for me to transfer from a CC to a UC?

No, communication courses are only required to transfer into a CSU I believe.

okay

what about in this scenario…

i went to CSU for fall 2011 (1 semester) then i transferred to a CC because its cheaper and has higher chance of me getting into a UC. at the end of 2 years, i will want to transfer to a UC. however, if i do not get into any of the UCs i want to get in and decide to go back to the same CSU, would I had had to take the Public Speaking class? i was already admitted “2 years ago.” (assuming 2 years already passed)

I am no expert, but my guess would be yes you would still have to take it since you will be in the normal applicant pool for transfers the same rules apply to you. Check with your counselor, but if you are trying to decide ASAP I would sign up to be on the safe side.

yes you have to if youre going to csu.

Yes, CSU’s require Public Speaking while UC’s don’t.
While UC’s require Foreign Language and CSU’s don’t.

Hi, I might be of some assistance here since I just had a councillor meeting regarding this.

For the Fall 2012 semester I applied to csulb and most of the UC’s and she told me that I was missing the public speaking requirement of IGETC. I did take a different communications class before (Interpersonal Communication) which she said would fulfill the Calstate GE but not IGETC.

So she told me if I did not or could not take the Public Speaking class to get certified in both the Calstate ge certification and IGETC. Then go ahead and only give Long Beach the Calstate GE cert. and the UC’s the IGETC since they don’t require communications.

Hope I was of some help.
