Does anyone know of any examples of pieces the orchestra plays in past years? or even what pieces people played for the auditions? thanks.

During the past year, the pieces included Beethoven Symphony no. 3 (Eroica), Beethoven Emperor Concerto, some Tufts student composed pieces, a Schubert symphony, Rossini Overture… (I know I’m forgetting a lot of stuff)

thank you!

Do you think I could get by with playing Introduction & Tarantella by Sarasate? I haven’t taken classes with my violin teacher in almost a year now, but I think I should be able to join the orchestra…
I got my performance diploma from ABRSM when I was 14? 13? Haha, but the Introduction & Tarantella is the last thing I played… Do you think I can get by with it?

should we play our audition piece memorized or does it not matter?

Hey there budding orchestrists -
If any of you are interested, Torn Ticket II is always looking for talented musicians for the pit orchestra for the musicals every semester. You should audition; it’s fun.
And if you play in the pit for the Department musical (Kiss Me, Kate this year) you can get either a half-credit or DOLLA DOLLA BILLZ.

how do we audition for pit?

There will be signs and flyers and announcements on Tufts Life about how to do so within the first month of school.
