Hi, I was wondering if anybody could give me some input about the music program. I (GA/Asian/Female) play the double bass and I was considering taking music as a minor (at whatever college I apply to).
And does music help much during the admissions process?

thanks!

There is no performance major at Wash U. You will be able to play in ensembles and orchestras and take lessons with applied music faculty (many from the St Luois Symphony). There are many many talented students there who for whatever reason didnt choose a music major but want to keep music in their lives, the ensemble quality is high. The department is small but comprehensive with some very well known and well respected musicology, theory and composition faculty. The dept is housed in its own small, quaint complex on the edge of the campus closest to the South 40 undergrad housing area.Theres a great old house(often used in pics in the colleges literature) that the faculty offices are in,a classroom/practice building and a music library.Theres a nice patio with tables and chairs that I imagine are well used in nice weather, very homey feeling.
D is completing her first year there as a Musicology Grad student, went specifically to work with one faculty member. If you have any other questions,I'll get answers from her.
