I was just wondering if anyone knows when the deadline to order a laptop is so we are able to pick them up during CTOPS.

may 15... details are on the brochure

Ok please don't order a computer from the school. I was on the edge, but my parents kind of made me get one. It's breaking, there are hardware crashes like every 2 weeks, and my screen blacks out like 3 or 4 times a day (the blackouts didn't start until i gave it to the people to fix the hardware crashes)..it's just bad. And I'm not the only one. A lot of of my friends computers are falling apart to. Plus, they'll help anyone with a computer out on simple things like internet connections and hopefully if you have a nicer computer you won't need them for serious issues as often as others.

is it worth getting one if you get the laptop grant.

obviously "free" is worth it, but having it and saving stuff to it would you rather just have a different one and pay for it?

definitely. im not sure how many people actually have broken theres but mine has worked great. a lot of my friends have not had any trouble with theres so i would definitely get it. especially if you get a laptop grant. its like turning down free money. and theres a 4 year warranty, if you break it or drop it you can get it fully replaced for 250 dollars. i think they might even be changing that to 100.

well yeah, if it's free then definitely go for it. I'm just saying a lot of people have had issues, so maybe others who don't have a grant should check out other possible options.

I think the warranty that covers the computer for four years will cover any of the issues he has brought up. My daughter in her 3 years has only had a couple of problems, maybe the last batch was bad. She dropped hers off her desk and got a brand new computer last spring....better than the one she had. The 24/7 tech support plus loaners plus 4 year warranty against any kind of damage is worth it to me.

We have done the laptop deal at 2 different colleges with D and S1--it has been great to have the warranty and the 24/7 support. We plan to do the same for S2 at UNC--having it all right there is important!!

My d brought her own laptop and we regret it. Last month, she had to mail hers back to the manufacturer for warranty work and I had to overnight a spare laptop to her ($250 in shipping fees). It's a new laptop, purchased last August, and this is the SECOND time we've had to do this. (What can I say, we literally live in the back yard of HP world headquarters, so she buckled and bought one with her hard-earned summer earnings. Big mistake.)

Buy the school laptop.

i think the thing to remember is that all laptops have problems, no matter what brand or price. im gonna go with the university's warranty package so i dont have to pay as much to fix it when problems do arise.

I'd buy the school laptop. It's nothing special but the service they can offer you trumps everything else.

Even though the deadline is May 15, can we still order tomorrow (15th)? Do they consider the deadline the "last day"?

Does anyone know?
