Orders to Report

I figured it is time for a new thread as we get closer to April. Let everyone know when orders are received.

I am not sure what you mean by 'orders'. If a young person has an Appointment to USNA - ALL of them arrive for "I-Day" on June 28,2006

Once you accept your appointment, the academy mails out orders to report--likely in April. I will try to find out specifically where I read this. The packet consists of documents addressing what you need for plebe summer as well as other forms.

Here is the information I referenced:

· Both parents and plebes should carefully read the “Important Information” document contained in the Permit to Report packet mailed to all new appointees in mid-April. This is the most important preparation guideline for Induction Day (I-Day) and Plebe Summer available. Refer to it often! This document can also be located on-line at on the Academy's site (PDF file - requires Adobe Acrobat).

<a href="http://usnaparents.com/Guide/PlebeSummer/PlebeSummer.htm%5B/url%5D">http://usnaparents.com/Guide/PlebeSummer/PlebeSummer.htm</a></p>

The Permit to Report packet will arrive after the 1st of April if the schedule is the same as previous years. In it, you will receive more information and numerous forms to complete. Usually, your company assigment will arrive at a later date but you will receive a time to report. The assignment of times appears to be entirely random, not alphabetical and not by company. Nothing seems to be a good predictor of the report time that you will receive. It is important to complete all forms CAREFULLY and to keep copies, particularly of medical and immunization forms or you could find yourself bogged down in the medical review on I-Day. I have heard of Plebes that received duplicate immunizations because their form was not in their file and they did not have a copy of their medical information. The only thing you need on I-Day is your ID, your reporting orders and a copy of your medical information. Everything else is extra.

Leave the golf clubs and tennis rackets at home on I-day. There's always one and you don't want to be the ONE.

leave EVERYTHING at home, they'll issue you practically everything you can think of, and if u need something in particular your parents can always send it to you. unless its contraband. plus, youre going to be carrying around a 70+ pound pack, the last thing you want is to have to carry another useless bag they're just going to take from you anyways. they take your personal bags and store them for you until the end of plebe summer.

Be sure to bring the items listed in the "permit to Report" packet. Laundry is not always ready on time and the socks and underwear they tell you to bring will come in pretty handy as you work in the hot, humid Annapolis summer. Better to have a few extras than to run out.

You are not reporting to a Country Club!

Bring that graphing calculator if you plan on taking validation tests, especially for Calc.

Bring the cell phone, too. It will be packed away with your civilian clothes, but you will get to use it for the 3 allowed phone calls home.
