ORFE vs. Economics

I was just looking at the requirements for the ORFE program and I noticed you need a Physics or Chemistry subject test in addition to a math test. I haven't taken either science (I took math 2) so this means I can't apply to ORFE? Also, can I enter in economics and switch to ORFE or is it pretty much locked in? Any insight would be appreciated.

They do ask you have to have a science subject test if you’re interested in engineering, as you mentioned, but you’re are not in any way bound to your choice of A.B. or B.S.E - so if you say you’re interested in an A.B. (econ), but you then decide you want to do ORFE, I would think you should be able to do it with relatively few problems…you are applying to Princeton as a whole, not a School of Engineering, etc. or anything like that.

I’m pretty sure you are actually applying to AB or BSE.

However, we were told at an info session a few weeks ago that the Woodrow Wilson school is the only competitive major at Princeton, so I would imagine that you’d have no problem switching in to Engineering as long as you do it early enough or satisfy the initial science/math prereqs.

I’m in the same predicament actually, wavering between ORFE, econ, or some other engineering field. But my application definitely fits an engineering-major profile much more than an econ major, so I decided to apply BSE.

I say just apply to the major that would give you the greatest chance of being accepted. Actually getting in to Princeton is going to be much harder than switching departments.

you apply to the university as a whole, you just need to say what you are interested in. When you get accepted there is a form to fill out with possible classes for the next year and you can fill out eihter the AB or the BSE form, regardless of what was on your application.

okay, thanks for the help
