Anyone know the good places in the US to study organ? Where the good organ professors/students are at?
So just now I only googled 9 schools and all 9 have organ. From that I would conclude there are many many more. I would choose a school based on size, location, and “vibe” then look at their organ program. I could keep going and find others easily.
Organ and Church Music – Music (stolaf.edu) St. Olaf
Performance | College of Fine Arts (bu.edu) See organ section. BU has a grad program in sacred music too.
Program Overview: Organ | Oberlin College and Conservatory Oberlin
Organ | Lawrence University Lawrence
Program: Organ and Liturgical Music, M.M. - University of Hartford - Acalog ACMS™ Hartt
Organ | Peabody Institute (jhu.edu) Peabody
Thomas Handel teaches organ at New England Consrvatory
Ithaca Conservatory also has organ apparently but can’t find it on the site, saw an article about an organ student recital
Indiana University JSOM: Organ Department – IU Jacobs School of Music
Just to repeat: my list of links was from a random search of 9 schools and since all 9 have organ, I assume many do. I could keep going but I will leave it to you to look a schools you are interested in, then check for organ.
Sometimes organ is not listed (nor are other instruments, at times) so you can also look for faculty for organ or even student recitals.
The info is listed explicitly as a major in some schools which makes it easy but don’t give up on a school without deeper research.
An “organ department” certainly sounds like it would meet your needs
Too bad you don’t want to go to the UK. You can study music at Oxford and actually apply to become an “organ scholar”. The benefits vary by college and there are some beautiful instruments there.

Agreeing with @HazeGrey! and adding that only organ scholars can apply to both Oxford & Cambridge
(note that you still have to do an academic subject as well)
Wow! That looks amazing. Will definitely keep that on my list in the future
