Organic Chem as a Freshman-HELP!

so i was just made aware that i have been placed into orgo. i am in the honors program and i want to do pre-med. i took AP chem my senior year and got a 5.
on apa day, i specifically wrote on my course request form that i did not want to take orgo. i understand there is a drop/add period during the first week of classes but i checked and saw that all the gen chem/honors gen chem (which is what i asked for) classes are closed.

now my questions:
does anyone have experience taking orgo as a freshman? how hard is it? is it possible to get an A?
is there a way for me to add a class that is closed?

If u really dont want to take orgo u can drop it. Dont wrry about getting into gen chem because the sections usually open since a lot of ppl drop it and u can always talk to one of the professors to get a special permission number.

Orgo is pretty hard but it is not impossible to get an A in…the first few chapters require general knowledge of general chem such as orbital theory, VSEPR, and the acid/base theories. If u think u have a good grasp of these topics give orgo a try.

thanks, so you’re saying that i can easily add gen chem.
and what about gen physics? do a lot of people drop that too?

I would think gen physics is the same (though i cant guarantee that since the professor and administrator are different than the ones i had when i took it freshman year) but the professor who teaches it now, brahmia i think, is pretty nice so u can always email or talk to him in person if u need a special permission number.

one last question:
to get the special permission number should i talk to/email the professor before or on the first day of classes or after (as in the second day when the add/drop period begins for freshman)?

thank you so much for the help.

I would talk to the professor before the add/drop period so u can have the number ready when u can add courses and just in case there might be delays in getting a special number or there isnt anymore special permissions available.

orgo is hard no matter what year you take. if anything, i personally would take it spring semester. the fall semester of ur freshman year shouldnt be so rough. but thats just me.

orgo 1 isnt offered spring semester

orgo is going to be hard no matter when you take it. but if you dont want to take it 1st semester, it is understandable. and since you got a 5 on the AP chem test, you passed out of gen chem so you dont need to take that either…

yea, so i was thinking about just going into gen physics.
