Hello. I'm not yet in college but I would like to learn more about this subject which I heard is the most dreadful for pre-meds in college. Does anyone have any information/tips/reccommendations for books or materials I can use to acquaint or being learning the material with now? Thanks! :)

And yes I really would like to find out more information on O-Chem and to at least start previewing it.

First you need to know chemistry. Then you take Orgo, and its something that is utterly pointless to prep for. Your taking the class learn it then. Doing it before won't help you if you learn things wrong.

hey locknload, i just started this class this week and from the looks of it, it doesn't seem as bad as people think. i think a major problem people have with the course is that it's an entirely new branch of chemistry, so it's more about learning new subject matter that isn't based too much on general chemistry. the class is taught focusing on concepts rather than calculations, so you need to understand the material very well. all this coupled with the fact that the class moves pretty quickly, and that you'll have to do a lot of independent study, seems to be what leads people to downfall in the class. what i'm planning to do is study each chapter thoroughly and keep up with the problems, and hopefully do well enough on the tests so that i'll stay within the top 15-18% of the class, which will guarantee me an A.

Organic chemistry is a far different course than anything you will take. It is very concept oriented. p reepa I warn you the beginning of ochem is not what ochem is like. Though your idea is right. Keep up with the problems and do well on the tests while reading the book. People cram for thsi class, its concept oriented not memorization oriented.
