Organizing College Apps

I'm starting to organize my college apps (applying to a few that use the common app, a few that don't, and a few state colleges).

Anyone have any suggestions for the best way to organize all of the information, such as essay topics and due dates? Have any samples of Excel documents or anything that you used to organize the information?

It might seem silly, but I really like things organized for optimum performance and efficiency.

Also, as I'm starting out filling out applications, what would you say is the best first thing, second thing, and so on to do when filling out apps?

Make yourself a chart with columns for school name, application due date, number of recs, who is doing those recs, fees, supplements, etc.

Fill it out.

My school has a folder with a chart liek this in it that they give to all seniors. It's very useful.

The first thing to do in college apps is probably just to slog through the annoying stuff 'Name/Age/Address/etc' so that it's done. Open a CommonApp account online, etc.

Cool. Thanks :]

I sent you a PM.

There was a great thread with tons of info, I am having trouble finding it. Can someone try?

How about individualized folders for each college? With a checklist kind of thing in the inside flap? Just my 2 cents.

College application checklist chart on Collegeboard: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/apply/the-application/8435.html

Thank you to everyone for all the great information posted on this board. This is my first post (and I'm still trying to figure out how it all works) but I have been reading everything I can find on this board MT related. It has been very helpful, though overwhelming at times. I have a D who is a senior and like so many others, has her heart set on a life in MT.

MichaelNKAt, we are trying to organize all the deadlines, requirements, etc and if it's possible, would also really appreciate receiving the organizational charts, tools, etc that you created and I've read so much about.
