As a premed, how advantageous is it to take organic first semester freshmen year? I'm leaning towards it since I made a 5 on the AP Chem exam, but isn't it also beneficial to take intro courses to build up my science GPA? Thanks in advance for the advice.

well, it's possible that you could "build up your science GPA," but the intro chem courses are more of a nuisance than anything. I'd suggest taking orgo as a freshman because the freshman section has a nicer curve (B+ as opposed to B- for the upper classmen section), and you'll be free to take biochemistry later on, which I have heard is a good course for premeds to take.

At Duke in particular you should probably go for Organic, given that the curve is a little more lenient first semester.

Still, there are advantages to 23 - the courses probably are easier to get A's in than, say, biochem (esp. if you aced the AP), and MCAT genchem is pretty tough.

On balance, I tend to recommend 151 now, but that's because I changed my mind over the past year or so.
