Orgo II in the spring semester of junior year?

Hi,

I am currently a freshman who is not majoring in a science and is trying to plan out a rough schedule of classes I will take for the next three years or so.

I was wondering if taking organic chemistry II in the spring semester of my junior year is too late in terms of knowing enough material for the MCATs?

Thanks for the help!

That depends on when you are going to take the MCATs.

I was thinking April of my junior year

Then you're fine, because orgo 2 will be basically done by then.

Okay, thanks for the input!

I don't know where you are, but will an april MCAT put you in a bind with finals studying? This has always been my issue with the april test date. I took it at the end of May of junior year (I took orgo II when you are planning to), I thought the month of studying helped a ton, and I still got my applications in relatively early (could've even been a couple weeks earlier if i didn't procrastinate on my personal statement for a few weeks).

Oh, I did not realize that. I also have exams during the end of April. Thanks for pointing that out. I suppose May is definitely better then. Though, would it be a good idea if I took the MCATs before April (like January) before finishing orgo II? I am worried that if for some reason I do poorly the first time, I will have sufficient time to prepare for the MCATs again.

Orgo is only SLIGHTLY covered on the MCAT (I had 1 orgo passage out of 7 and maybe 2 or 3 discreet questions out of 13) - so, if anything, you can self-study second semester.

April of one's junior year was for a very long time the "classic" time to take the MCAT -- for the simple reason that that's when it was offered. With computer-based testing opening up more options, it is becoming less popular -- but the point is, people have been handling it just fine for many, many years.

Just to clarify, orgo is now ~25% of the BS section (before, it used to be ~50% I think).
