Should I take an organic chem class in HS? They offer it as a summer class in high school. Or should I take it the year before I have organic in college?

Your high school class wont count for med schools unless it is against a college or university. If you don’t do well, it will count against you since you have to submit any college classes done anytime to medical school.

If it is inside your school and is not a dual or college credit, by all means you should do it. it will familiarize you with the subject and make it easier when you need to retake it in college.

^couldn’t have said it better myself

I had a semester of organic chemistry in high school, and I would definitely recommend it. When I took Orgo in college, I already had a grounding in it so it was a lot less intimidating, and it made it a lot easier to see how the pieces fit together.

If you like it, then take it, if not, there is no reason to take Orgo in HS, take whatever you like.
Definitely, strong focus on writing is very very helpful in all aspects / in every class and continue to be very helpful in Med. School. This was my D’s focus in HS, and she has always been a strong writer (including some awards in HS). Other than that, she took AP Bio, but had to start Bio with the very first college Bio in her major.
Another focus should be on subjects that you do not want to take in college for potential GPA damage. History was such a subject in D’s case.
Basically, as far as we remember, she devoted most of her HS homework time on writing and history. The other classes were much easier. It did not prevent her to graduate from college with straight As.
