I have a question. I am a bio major. I spoke to the head of the bio office and my grade advisers about organic chem lab. Even though I am pre-med, they told me I only need to take 1 semester of orgo lab. This is weird b/c nearly every med school wants a whole yr. I am just curious if this would put me at a disadvantage with other students from other schools who have taken a whole year. Please comment. Thanks.

I'm not sure if you should do a whole year but.....I've heard that stony brook advisors aren't reliable at all....and most of the time they repeat what's in the undergraduate bulletin book.....just letting you know x.x

I guess I'd take a whole year just to play it safe.....are you gonna take orgo next year?

I agree with you about the advisers. I need to take orgo next yr b/c this yr. I will be done w/ chem. I am just not sure because my suitemates, who are also pre-med bio majors, say that you only need to take 1 semester. That made me uneasy since nearly every med school says that you need a whole yr. Orgo lab is extremely hard from what I hear. That is why I need to know now so that I will have an idea of what my schedule will be next yr and it will aid in planning my schedule for next semester.

There only exists one semester of orgo lab, CHE 327. It's only one semester, but it's two credits, so it's equivalent to two one-semester labs.

Thanks for your response.
