ORIE offers the most rigorous course of study and the best job options on the street and in an economic downturn due to the hard quantitative skills it imparts.

Economics offers the liberal arts experience, and combined with some math classes, will offer the same opportunities as ORIE. Otherwise you can go into government work, policy work, or consulting, etc.

ILR is really more for the “people side” of the economy. Negotiation. Contracts. Labor policy. But some students choose to turn it into business school and go into consulting or investment banking. Most don’t.

Thanks. I know that you could do pre-professional work in almost any major, but could you do pre-law with ORIE?

You can be a pre-law student with any major. Law school admissions is mostly dependent on your LSAT score and GPA.

My friends who were pre-law took a wide variety of humanities and social science coursework and did internships with a variety of organizations. Their majors were Econ, Policy Analysis and Management, Sociology/Theatre Arts, ILR, Art History and Biology.
