Orientation 101

So who's going to session 101? Anyone flying down from Norcal today? (specifically from Oakland Airport / Southwest Airlines 4PM flight?) I'll be there :)

I'm flying down from San Jose airport... flight leaves at like 12:25 pm. Not sure what I'm going to do between landing time and 8:00 pm checkin but I'm sure I can find something.

flying down from san jose airport, southwest airlines around 11:30

heading down tomorrow on Southwest from Norcal. planning on getting to campus later in the morning just in time for lunch.

driving up tomorrow morning ;)
im exciteddd

I'm going down tonight! But I didn't want to wait around so I booked a much later flight (like 6:15 late). I need to pack... and do my homework so I don't have to do it there... oh gosh, this is not going to be fun.

im gonna be driving there :)

man im behind on things and i have to finish it all today -_-

exciting folks. let us know how it goes.

the counselors (most of them) are awesome so you'll have a great time.

any idea what those of us flying in early arrival are to do when we get there? I'm hailing from DC, and will arive around noon the day before my orientation. i'm scared that i will be clueless and get lost :(. I hope i make my shuttle from LAX to campus!

I hope you guys are enjoying your experience. :) It's pretty fun and exciting... just wait until fall quarter. ;)

lol they're probably playing mafia instead of posting on cc

Yeah I know but I'm expecting that once they read it (after they finish O) and that there'll be a flurry of more questions, curiosities, and general excitement about their first year of college..

i saw all those orientation kids in the crowd today... and all i can sa y is MAN im glad im NOT freshmen anymore.

i saw them getting dinner! when i got out of OH in knudsen around six

lol ur always in OH

****!! i only went from 2-2:40, 4-5 and 5-6 today! and the only real OH was the 5-6 one

i want to stay after lab tomorrow to get to know him better

I was there today, but I don't know what you guys look like... haha

btw, question, orientation counselor forbids me from taking 4 classes (not "fair" to kids in later orientations if i take the classes they want) and also says that i can't use my laptop to register for classes (not fair to kids without laptops).

Should i listen or just ignore her cause I think if i do as she says especially the bit about 4 classes, I would be a bit screwed over because i have been planning out some stuff and i literally need to take 4 classes this quarter to graduate in 4 years (i want to double major)?

oh another question, i was stupid enough to take community college courses as a high schooler, and some of them that i just took for interest do not fulfill any of ge requirements or my other requirements.

They just suck up units that count towards my 216 unit cap. Thanks to that, if i try to double major, i will have like 3 classes too many.

Would it be very realistic/probable to petition to somehow get rid of these useless classes?

Thanks a lot.

Recap:

1.Should i listen to orientation counselor or should i just ignore her and sign up without her "supervision and guidance" by myslef on my own laptop?

orientation counselor forbids me from taking 4 classes

Since you're online right now, go register in a heartbeat. Not even the department counselors had control of what I registered. I told them I would enroll in 13 units of easy stuff, and I went home to change it to what I wanted. Who told the other students to register later? Who is the counselor? I want to know.

 1. Petition unit cap realistic?

[/quote]

You won't be able to take useless classes. If you are double majoring, I would believe they would accomodate your petition, as long as you do not waste your units.

Btw, when does Orientation have a big lunch/dinner outside of the halls? I want some free food. :D

It was today.

Is your orientation counselor Nataly Qian?
