hey, so i'm going to orientation 110 but for those of you who are going to 101 today, i think we all would appreciate it if you would come to this thread and regularly update us on things like what's going on, what it's like, how things work, even answer some of our questions etc. we'd all very much appreciate it and it would reduce some of our anxiety and get some of our questions answered. just a friendly request if you happen to have the time!

orientation doesn’t change from year to year so i’m pretty sure if you just asked your questions right now, people would be able to answer them.

Im at the orientation now!!!
currently in the dorm!

^ Do you like your roommates? Having fun?

yaaa, i got a double in riebber terrace.

orientation seems like ages ago :(

ahhhhhh…I’m so jealous! :)

Just got back home.
We stayed at Rieber Terrace, some got doubles, most got triples. I was lucky to get a double.

Here is the basic basic rundown of Orientation.

DAY 1:
Listen to presentation and lectures ALL DAY. And I am not exaggerating. All day there are presentations about UCLA and everything, sort of like a more detailed college day.

After dinner you sort of discuss your major with your group (You will be grouped with approx. 10 people that have similar, if not, the same major intention as you) sort of and just relax. There are some silly events that I did not attend like Club Jamba because it is NOT cracking. Feel free to leave campus and explore Westwood. I booked it and went to my friends apt. on Frat Row and chilled there. They don’t care, or at least my counselor didn’t, just come back in the morning.

DAY TWO:
Non-stop planning of your schedule. It’s all you do. You get one-on-one sessions with your counselor to discuss everything. It’s pretty much all you do on day 2. Just figure out your schedule manually.

At night, they do this picture scavenger hunt thing called Carpe Noctem. I booked this one too because you circle around the entire campus for like 2 hours and I was tired enough to be running around trying to find small things.

DAY 3:
Wake up at 8. Meet at your counselors room. Prepare for battle. It’s a race against everyone for classes now. Plus, the internet is SUPER slow because everyone is getting on it at once at the strike of 9:00 AM.
Sucks for the rest of you but we 101 sessioners had lots of problems, or at least me and my group did, with classes already being full. So think about other classes you want to take also.

After that, you get a nice little 3 hour presentation, then lunch, then a campus tour.

That’s it.

Hope that helps.

Check my thread.

LOL eddylee, Club Jamba was definitely NOT cracking. Tru dat.

So if we already know what classes to take, we can chill the entire 2nd day?

^ Yeah I have class to go to on the 2nd day. Can I just leave?

Yeah you can. But it’s probably a good idea to speak to a counselor once just to know for sure that you’re on the right track.

Club Jamba…BE WARNED.
hahaha

Yup, chill out and ditch all the workshops. I just went out to lunch with a friend and came back for my afternoon appointment with my counselor and that was it.

P.S. Your counselor appointments usually run behind extra late (Like 20-45min late) so don’t start running up the hill thinking, “Oh ****! My appointment!” You are most likely not even late.

For those of you who are planning your schedules before orientation, check to see that those classes are still open on Day 2.

I had planned out two possible schedules, and by Day 2 I found out that both were all full. :(

i don’t think you really need to worry about that, since after this week all the returning students’ 2nd pass has already started and chances are they already signed up for the classes they want (i believe sophmore standing students’ 2nd pass is tomorrow?)

Couldn’t you have someone save a spot in a class for you if there’s no waitlist?

thanks for your reply eddylee. one question, at what time were you guys all said and done? the orientation site says checkout is at 6:00 but i’m kinda worried since i have to catch the flyaway shuttle at 6:30 and i’m assuming there are going to be long lines for checkout and people will be saying goodbyes etc.

thanks for the overview, Eddylee09! From what you said, this orientation really could have been shortened to 2 days, but I guess this is an opportunity for freshmen to familiarize themselves with the dorm life away from home for the first time. I have one question, can you leave early on day 3, as soon as you are done with enrolling in your classes?

@sheep55

yeah you can leave after you enroll… but where’s the fun in that…?
You will miss the chat about rape, drugs, peer pressure, and sex. Plus you will miss the traditional tour which was a blast.

What the hell is Club Jamba?
