:)

I'm not quite sure whether I will have to come for International Student Arrival or not.

HOORAY! I'm getting so excited!

does anyone know when they're sending the letters? just can't wait to get an @mit.edu email

haha and then you can join facebook :-P

are you guys gonna do the pre-orientation thing? is it worth the money?

I've always heard people very pleased with the pre-orientation programs, mostly because they got to have a group of friends before everybody else straggled in.

My advice: get here as early as possible! I got to campus about 5 mins before the end of checkin, and it seemed like everybody else already had friends :(

awww....I was planning on getting there a day earlier, but now I really want to do the leadership thing

amrik! go for the international program!!! I'll be going=)

shrug as long as you don't show up late to rush, i wouldn't worry too much about not going to a pop, unless it's something you're madly interested in, in which case, sure, go for it. i saved my money and stayed home and worked, and i don't think i lost out on any friendships b/c of it. many of the people you meet and spend time with at orientation, while they're lovely people, aren't necessarily going to end up being friends with you forever and ever.

so goddess, you said you were living at senior haus, right? i have a friend there! she's the one with the really long blonde hair....and she's from oregon. i was wondering if you knew or ever bumped into her.

Amrik, you're American, aren't you?

Mithopefulgirl, I'll be going, too! Can't wait. We internationals really need that extra week to recover from jet lag.

Meder, they're sending the big packets with Kerberos ID in mid-May. If they're sent by mail, then we can expect them to arrive at the end of May or early June. :(

Actually, though, rush starts early this year -- everybody's "supposed" to arrive on Sunday, but there are official dorm events being held on the Thursday and Friday previous.

portlander: yeah, i know your friend. i didn't know she was from oregon, but. we see each other around every so often; she probably doesn't know much about me.

and oh yes, rush is...messed up this year. arrive on saturday, or earlier, if possible. everyone will be happier that way. refrains mightily from stressing about rush, *ing about the bloody ARC, and other obnoxious topics

I'm semi-domestic, if that counts.

I'll be there a week early anyway for preseason.

Anyone else playing a fall sport? Like field hockey, for example? =)

Yeah, I'm not going to get started on it either. Listen kids, do all of us old folks a favor and take lots of dorm tours. Get excited about all the dorms. Don't come in with a set idea about where you're going to live. Go explore. Make your decision based on the people you want to live with through hell and high water for the next four years. PLEASE.

I sure wish I had taken dorm rush more seriously :(

..And I guess some people liked it, but I thought Discover Mechanical Engineering was really lame and poorly run last year. This year it's under new management, though, so maybe you'll be fine.

My suitemate did the Outdoors Program, and she told me to tell people not to join it unless they really have no qualms about hygiene, hehe.

People really seem to love FAP. So if art's your thing, do it then because it's hard to meet creative people on campus otherwise.

if you're interested in art, also consider taking fasap, the freshman arts seminar, during the first term. a good number of my current friends were in it with me, but that's mostly b/c half the haus frosh from my year were in it.

and yes. really, really, really keep an open mind about the dorms, unless you have a v. good reason not to (i came in having spent 3 years living in a girl's dorm, so mccormick lost. i think everyone's happy about that, however...given that walking into that place makes my hands itch for a can or three of spraypaint) b/c this is probably your first chance to actually have input into where you live. and yeah, people will tell you, oh you can always transfer after a term, or move out next year, etc etc...but why wait? take advantage of things from the beginning, before you get hosed and lame, and it'll probably turn out better. or you'll realize more quickly that oh hey, this place that i thought i really liked during rush...it's actually kinda the suck. and then you move, and things get better that way too.

i can talk for quite some time about more specifics re: dorm rush, fsilg rush, housing, and student life @ mit. but i won't, right now. if you happen to be interested, poke me, and i'll see.

ok people. check out Ben's blog for the Next Big Mailing. YAY! they're sending letters in the next few days by DHL (if the ISO won't cause any big problems, of course)
