I'm looking for a suggestion for accommodations during orientation...I will be attending with my son in June, and when he signed up we were offered the option for "guest" accommodations on campus. I'm assuming this means staying in a dorm room which I'd rather not do! On the other hand, I don't want to be too far from campus...I haven't been to the school yet (he visited with my husband) so I don't have any idea of where I could possibly stay that is not too far. Any suggestions?

There are several threads here on lodging near campus. Look directly below this thread- it links to 4 or 5 of them (says “similar threads”.

There are several b&b’s which you might like. The closest hotels are the Hampton Inn on St Charles and the Best Western. they are right next to each other, and right on the streetcar line. Have fun!

Thanks for the hotel recommendations. The “similar threads” that I see at the bottom have to do with accommodations at other schools or SAT accommodations…I’m not seeing anything Tulane related. Also looked at the other Tulane threads, but I didn’t see anything referencing lodging…could you point me more specifically at a thread that would be helpful? Thanks!

Look at the top right where it says “search this forum”. Click it and put in “hotel”. Lots of threads will pop up! Heres one I found by doing that. Good luck http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/tulane-university/867438-hotel-destination-tulane.html?highlight=hotel

Thanks so much for your help!

momstriple, I just came back from an Honors weekend and I stayed at the Best Western St. Charles. I had never been to NOLA before and I thought it was a great area to stay. 10-15 min. one way on the streetcar and you are at Tulane, 10-15 min. the other way and you are at the French Quarter. For parents weekend we are booked at the Hampton Inn which is right next door to the Best Western on St. Charles Avenue. Look these up and see if you can get in.

There is a B&B alled Park View Guest House that is on St. Charles Avenue almost immediately across from Tulane.

Hi All- Jeff from Admission here. Wanted to let you all know about a great hotel that our visitors love. Its called the International House and its located in the Central Business District. Its right off the streetcar line, so it wont take you but 20 minutes to get to Tulane (and its the prettiest drive arguably in the country!). its also within walking distance of the French Quarter, but not smack in the middle of it all, so you avoid all the throngs of tourists. The hotel is totally locally owned and operated and everything in there, from the furniture to the artwork, is local. Its the largest boutique hotel in the city but its not one of those massive chain hotels. Also, they have a great discounted Tulane rate; just give them a call and make sure to mention the Tulane Admission rate.
Maison St Charles…

We stayed here in October. The streetcar stops in front of the hotel and is about 10 minutes away from Tulane. Hotel was nice, affordable and staff was great. Breakfast wasn’t that great but for the price this hotel was a great deal. Very clean and quiet. There is parking on site which is not always the case at most hotels in New Orleans and if you become a facebook fan, parking is free.

Thanks so much for suggestions… I will check them out online. I’m assuming that all of the above are in “safe” areas? I’ll be alone since my son will be housed on campus.
