Does anyone know how much your orientation effects course selection? I'm signed up for the 8th session, but I'm starting to think I should call and try to switch to an earlier date...(which i think is a $10 fee but w.e lol). Really don't want to start fall quarter with wacked out classes...

It will affect your course selection somewhat. You will have an equal opportunity to get into GE clusters and a few other classes (bio major classes come to mind- Chem 14A and Math 3 series). But, most of the other classes are first come first serve at orientation. GE classes will be tougher to get into with later orientation sessions as well as if there are multiple professors teaching the same freshman class and one is way easier. You will most likely be stuck with the harder professor.

I got the 1st session, but the AP score report will not be available until the 1st week of July. Will this affect my course selection?

I am only familiar with the science majors mainly. It should only really effect math if you took AP Calc AB or BC this year and are a science major planning on taking math in the fall. The others mainly give you units for classes. Which AP tests did you take this year and what is your major?

I had AP Calc AB 5, AP Psy 5, AP Bio 5 last year. This year I took AP Lit (probably I will get 4 or 5 or3?), AP Chem (4 or 5?) and AP Stat (4 or 5?). Will I have problems without the official AP report? My orientation is 6/28 - 6/30.

You should be fine. You will pass out of Math 3A/31A depending on your major. All of the other classes just give you credit, including the scores you do not know about. The only thing that is a question mark is the AP Lit and whether you pass out of Eng Comp 3 and the Writing I requirement. If you pass or got a 720 or higher on the writing part of the SAT Reasoning you will pass out of that. But, you don’t have to take that fall quarter and that class has an even amount of classes distributed between each orientation session.

Think it would be worth the $10 to move up 2+ sessions (assuming they’re still open…)?

It really depends on what your major is, how popular the classes you want to take are, and if there is multiple professors teaching with 1 super easy one. If you are like session 4 moving up to session 1 then it won’t be that big a difference. I would say if you are in session 6 or later, you probably should move up as much as possible.

called, got switched to the first session! yay :D

See you there! I am in session 101, but I have no ideas what course and how to select courses. I hope this can be figured out in the three-days session. Ha ha!

Oooh, I’d like to switch my orientation date up too. Was it difficult changing the date for you guys?

I am a newly admitted as well. I think the new requirement is that if one’s sat writing is 680+ then he won’t have to take the writing exam

xxCollegesxx, all information about how to sign up for classes will be explained at much detail during Orientation. Hope to see you there!

As far as the topic, this year we are stressing that we are reserving the same amount of spots across all sessions. Thus, regardless of which one you go to, you will have an equal chance of enrolling into your classes.
