Orientation - Aug 21

To my knowledge, we have a "mandatory" new student orientation on Aug 21 starting at 9am. I will not be able to make it because my parents work on Friday. Will I be penalized? I've heard that I might get a hold put on my account.

Please, somebody verify this. Thanks.

I think it is August 22, and you can call the Dean of Students and ask them. I can't see them barring you from going to class, you're already registered...I'm hesitant about going because it seems as if it is geared for those who have not been at UF prior (and I have for Summer B, what makes it ironic is that Summer B students get NO orientation at all, just show up and figure it out yourself...)

Yes, I meant the 22nd.

I already did some calling up on this and it seems to vary depending on what college you are in because this orientation will be divided up that way. I called the dean of students office and they said that they just arrange the event and whether or not you will be penalized depends on your college. I then called CLAS and tried to explain that I could not make it on that day and they kept saying that i had to try really hard to make it and attendance would be taken. I have heard word that if you dont go you will have to subsequently explain why you werent there to the dean or to somebody in your college and I wouldnt be surprised if thats noted somewhere on record. I REALLY do not could not make it to this orientation because I was under the impression that we could move in at anytime from the 17th until the 25th but apparently you have the be there by the 22nd or at least be in gainesville on that day. I shifted around my schedule to make room but I also truly do not want to go to a dumb orientation. If I was smart enough to get in to this university Im pretty sure I would be smart enough to "navigate the swamp" by my own self, tyvm.

Oh, although the lady at CLAS said that they will give formal excuses of absence to those who can PROVE that they have ALREADY made some form of travel arrangements that cannot be rearranged. I couldnt do this because I have appointments set up that had to be changed and only live 50 minutes away.

I'm pretty sure Summer B freshmen don't have to go, and frankly if we do, I'm not going

I have band camp. I guess I should call said department. I E-mailed the band director to no avail.
