<p>One of the things on the list of items needed says "Orientation confirmation page from <a href="http://www.utorientation.com">www.utorientation.com</a>" Where exactly do I get this, I don't see anything on the website :(</p>
<p>It is mailed to you or at least they mailed it to me. Hope this helps.</p>
<p>Is it just that very impersonal letter? The only personal information on it was my name and address. It also came with a brochure with FAQs about orientation.</p>
<p>I was wondering the same thing too. When I called them on Monday the guy on the phone told me to log into here (<a href=“Sign in with your UT EID - Stale Request”>Sign in with your UT EID - Stale Request) and print off the page with the blueish-grey chart on it. However, when I checked into orientation this past Tuesday all they required was a photo ID. Though official pages said that this ID must be government issued I heard many people asking what kind of ID was needed and the Orientation Advisers simply said “any ID”. Additionally, the ID is only taken by the Orientation Advisers (UT undergrad students) to cross off your name from their list and give you your information packets.
I did bring the mailed page and the print-off anyway but have yet to find a use for them.</p>
<p>Just as a general heads up about orientation: though check-in begins at 8:30, many people arrived early and the lines had built up to some 50 people for each half of the alphabet by the time I arrived at 8:35. However, they had many tables for sign-in and I was through within 20 minutes. If you are coming with a roommate, they must come at the same for you to check-in together. Moreover, after you have gotten your information packets and get in line for check-in to Jester, the check-in people will pair people adjacent to you as your roommate. So basically, they don’t tell you this but you should try to make friends with people in your line and maybe even move around so that you end up standing next to someone and therefore rooming with someone you like.
I didn’t really see any advantage to signing in early other than the fact that campus tours stopped after 10:00.
Also, check the weather (it may actually rain…). And you may want to bring your own hand soap because the rooms in Jester have a sink but no soap so you will have to go to the community baths if you want to wash your hands. Also, a lot of kids who’ve never been to Jester didn’t realize that the beds could be pulled out to be a twin sized bed rather than the quasi-couch that it appeared to be. They do provide sheets, a light blanket and a pillow that are acceptable, but the pillow and mattress are particularly stiff. Some people brought sleeping bags that they threw on top of the bed which seems like a good idea.
But I just remembered… it seems like they assign rooms starting at the top floors of Jester East and work down (alternating sexes by floors). It seems like floors 6 and 7 are the only remodeled ones and therefore include bunk beds, and softer (i think?) mattresses among other things. So if you want to get the remodeled floors, sign in around 9:20-ish. Also, the top floors (I’m on 9) seem to be a lot colder for some reason (the blankets are barely adequate) and also lose hot water intermittently. And speaking of hot water, the heat indicator for the shower handles is actually on the opposite side of the handle. What I mean is, the part of the handle the you grab points the opposite direction of the temperature you want. The arrow is on the round side.
And for some last notes,
Bringing a laptop is convenient too.
Don’t forget to bring your own bath towel and shower slippers.</p>
<p>Have fun and Hook em’</p>
<p>Quick correction,
Orientation sign-in started at 8:00 not 8:30. In any case, I arrive there 5 minutes after it began and still got through the line rather quickly.</p>
<p>VERY helpful, frever. Thanks!</p>
<p>if you go to orientation without your picked and also accepted roommate, do you get a room to yourself for awhile?</p>
<p>no they just find a person who also doesn’t have a roomate.</p>
