Hi everyone. I'll be an incoming Freshman this fall at Northeastern.

I'm looking at the different orientation dates and the latest one I see in my Neu account is July 29th. Since I live in California and I don't want to fly back and forth between the two coasts, does anyone know other available dates that are closer to the actual date we start school? If anyone knows, tell me!

Hey I hope you don’t mind, but I also had a question about orientation dates.

AP scores are released online this year in July, but there isn’t a specific date given. I want to get my scores back before I register because I think I’ll be able to skip several intro courses, but a worried that if I wait some of the classes might fill up. Do classes fill up quickly? Do they have a policy where if I get AP credit for this class my schedule is A and if I don’t it’s B? Is it better to register early and have priority at classes or wait and make sure I get into the right classes?

Last year my daughter went to the orientation in early July. There was not a problem with the AP stuff - I think the school had already received her scores by then (if you indicated to have them sent when you took the test - I believe the colleges get the scores before you do.) Otherwise, I believe the advisors recommend you assume that you have a score good enough to get credit when you register and pick classes that way. Then if the scores are not good enough you can change your schedule. The core classes that freshman take who don’t have the AP credits are not the ones that full up quickly (because they are usually fairly large lecture classes.)

Yes, they do tell you to assume you’ll get the score (unless you’re sure you didn’t, I guess…) If you end up not getting the score you need to skip the course, they’ll get you into the course. With a big lecture like intro bio or something like that, it won’t be a problem (though you might not end up with an ideal lab time). The alternative courses (say, taking an inquiries in bio class if you get credit for intro bio) are smaller and harder to schedule/get you into after the fact. That’s why they say to assume you get the score.

As for the issue of later orientation, contact the university. I know of students in the past who have come from long distances and been able to do their orientation the week before welcome week (which is when international students do it).
