Orientation for the Class of 2010

do you happen to know how long that takes?

Metrolink to Union Station is about 45-50 minutes. Never taken the subway (and I also think it's the gold line) from Union to LAX, just from Union to North Hollywood (which is about 30 minutes).

I think you're right brassmonkey, that you do get the credit for Calc BC once you pass Calc III.. which is essentially getting credit for Calc I and II but it goes on your transcript as Calc BC.

there is no subway to LAX, you can get to union station from LAX using public transportation, but because the taxi companies pay off the authorities, you actually first have to take a bus to a site slightly away from LAX and then you can take the train. Bottom line: it's majorly retarded. For the most part, flying into Ontario is usually pretty cheap.

Ah, I figured it out. I knew I always saw LAX on the Metro map.

http://www.mta.net/images/rail_map.pdf

So there's a shuttle that you you have to take from LAX to a Metro station nearby. From there it's the green line to the blue line to the red line. Then, finally, you'd take the Metrolink from Union. It doesn't seem too complicated--I've navigated NYC's subways for years--but I would imagine it would take forever. The Metrolink alone is 50 minutes. Plus, you're passing through certain neighborhoods that aren't the safest. This should be a last resort, IMO.

Actually, there is a new service called FlyAway (I think) which is a bus service that runs between Union Station and LAX every 30 minutes or 1 hour. I haven't been on it yet (but am planning to do so on my flight out) but it is cheap ($3) and supposed to take 35-45 minutes.

since we're on the topic of transportation, does anyone know how to get to UCLA and USC by public transport, and how long it takes?

UCLA's a pain. I've never fully made it there, but it's a very long bus ride along Santa Monica Blvd. towards Westwood--that's on top of the Metrolink ride into Union Station.

USC's not so bad. After you take the Metrolink, you can take a quick DASH shuttle there.

flamingurl--

You can also take SuperShuttle from LAX to either UCLA or USC.

Thanks:) I'm assuming this trip, altogether, would be around 2 hours? or maybe 3?

Since I am a Southern California native, from Pasadena, which OA trip would you recommend?

miller,

so what is it that I am hearing about this "Network"? It sounds pretty cool, can you elaborate?

I can tell you about it some from my stay. Basically, all 5 C's are on a shared network, and each comp has a sharing folder. Once on the network you can access anyones sharing folder, d/l anything, literally anything you want from TV shows to music to movies. My question is: is this legal?

first rule of the network: you do not talk about the network.

second rule of the network: you do NOT talk about the network.

and arsenalsweep, a lot of that is not quite true. but for obvious reasons, i can't exactly explicate upon them here. of course it's not legal. i may or may not be one of the biggest sharks on the pomona network, and i may or may not have gotten into trouble because of a few mouths.

woops, and for some reason it isn't letting me edit THAT post, but I could edit this one.,.,.hmmm

so how do the PP athletes fit in? like average students, or do they tend to be exclusive? it seems like a lot of people I've met plan on being on a varsity team.

Pomona athletes fit in completely fine and are not exclusive at all. The only exception might be the football team, who you can usually see eating together at Frary for dinner after practice, but that's sort of natural to do for any sport - maybe it's just more obvious too because they all tend to be bigger than the rest of us. The individual football players I've met have been really friendly and non-exclusive. Like any other club, people will probably have a group of friends they know from their sport, but you're not going to see a bunch of 'jock' groups from the different teams hanging out together all the time.

haha, thanks guys

great username, millertime420. the complete scope of pomona in a convenient term.

i'd rather believe that pomona has miller than psychics, but that's just me.
