I am making airline reservations for Orientation and just wondering if anyone knows about the fraternity "late nights" during Orientation. My son would like to join a fraternity, so he will want to go to the houses that week. Orientation ends on Friday, but since we are out of state and this will be his only time to spend at the fraternities, I was thinking of flying back Saturday so that he would have one more night. I'm just not sure if the fraternities would even have incoming freshmen coming over on the weekend or if they just do that on the Orientation days. thanks

Basically all the fraternities are having stuff going on during orientation, generally they won’t be the crazy parties you’d find during the school year, but they are pretty fun. If he’s interested I’m a rush captain in one of the fraternities here at UT, if you could pm me his information like his name, cell #, and the days he’s coming in for orientation I’d be glad to get him on our rush list. We just need all this information so we can contact him when he comes in so we can try to show him a good time. I’m sorry, but I’m not sure what to say about the weekends because it’s going to be my first summer in Austin (i’m a freshman right now), but I’m sure there’s going to be something. Also, if you wanted to know, there are rush events going on during the first weeks of the semester and he’ll be welcome to those too.
Hope it helps!

Wheatmom,

To the best of my knowledge, there are not parties on Friday night. The frats host Monday -Thursday. You are done by noon on Friday. You must be out of Jester by Friday. Last year my daughter said the place cleared out.

Your son should contact fraternities, find out the rush chairs, and let them know he is interested in their frat, and ask them about meeting them during his week.
