Is there anything in particular I can do or think about before getting to orientation that helps move things along quickly regarding my class schedule? Like questions that I might be asked regarding my interests that I will need to think about....I mean it just seems like there are sooo many classes to choose from and I'm not sure what to take. Your advisor helps you decide right? Cus I have a lot of interests in music and art but im an animal science major so I'm wondering if a minor in art or music is manageable. I guess my advisor will help with this right??

Also my orientation is 2 days long. Is the second day required? I have to work and I'm already taking off a lot of time for a vacation....

The second day is the day you register for classes, so, yes, it is required.

Even with science majors, minors in the humanities are possible--my girlfriend is a double major in biochem and cell bio/molecular genetics, and she's also doing a Spanish minor, just as an example. Your advisors will guide you through the university and college requirements to help you build your schedule.

Is the sleepover necessary? Should I go for a two-day orientation? Or is one-day orientation OK?

This is what shows up when I try registering for Orientation;

Available Orientation Dates
July 07 and July 08
July 14 and July 15
July 24 and July 25
July 28 and July 29
July 31 and August 01

What if I want to register for a one-day orientation?

One day registrations are not visible online because we reserve those for special cases of students who are unable to attend our two day Orientations.

I would seriously recommend a 2 day orientation for two reasons: 1, the 2 day dates are earlier and therefore you'll get a better course selection, and 2, one day orientations are very cut and dry and you don't get any information really that can help you out when you get to Maryland. They're also not as fun.

@somebody: Registered for two-day (28th July) :)

If someone has orientation on the 28th of July, tell me! I'll be seeing you guys!

Maybe there are different dates b/c you scared me...just checked DS is registered for July 10 & 11

My son also has July 10th and 11th.

@bullet/@finisher: Your DS/S must be either honor students or scholars. I mentioned the dates which were available to me :)

DS is scholars...I didn't realize that they have other dates for other programs. On his myUM there were 4 dates that I recall, the 1st one was 2 weeks ago.

My son's orientation dates are July l4 and l5. He is in the business school with undeclared major. Anyone going to be at Maryland on those dates? Thanks.
